As part of ongoing efforts to ensure smooth operationalization of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), the Oyo State government in collaboration with the National Pension Commission (PenCom), has organized a strategic capacity-building workshop for Pension Desk Officers at both State and Local Government levels.

While declaring the workshop open, the Chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Staff Pension Board, Hon Akeem Ademola Ige expressed gratitude to Governor Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde for his unwavering commitment to the welfare of Oyo State workers and retirees.

He noted that the commencement of the CPS and the mounting of the training workshop are testament to the Governor’s dedication to securing the financial future of the state’s workforce. He also acknowledged the strategic support provided by PenCom and Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs) since the commencement of the scheme.

Addressing the participants, the Chairman highlighted that the primary objective of the workshop was to equip Desk Officers, who would be interfacing directly with enrollees with the technicalities and operational knowledge. The training covered essential guidelines including enrollee’s documentation, payroll deductions, and the accurate remittance of pension contributions among others.

The South West Zonal Director , National Pension Commission, Mr Muslim Mutiu reassured the participants of the flexibility of Contributory Pension Scheme. He also noted that the Oyo State government has surpassed the federal and other states by contributing 12% and that enrollees can access a fraction of their RSA savings prior to retirement in case of temporary job loss, equity contributions for residential mortgage , or critical health needs. He added that workers retain the right to transfer their RSA
from one PFA to another through the transfer window.

Mr. Seun Ajani of Pencentral. NG guided participants through the process of generating accurate pension schedules and managing quotas across the four operating PFAs in Oyo State. He emphasized that upon opening a Retirement Savings Account (RSA), a unique Personal Identification Number (PIN) is automatically generated for life. Mr. Ajani stressed the necessity of accurate data entry as an employee’s pension schedule must accurately reflect their designated RSA PIN and personal details. Any data error will trigger a system flag that must be corrected before processing can continue.

Mr. Kamal Badmus, representing FCMB Pensions which is the Lead PFA, clarified that the unique PIN is generated by PenCom after a PFA processes an enrollee’s application. He also introduced the Voluntary Contribution feature, which allows enrollees to contribute an additional self-determined percentage of their salary alongside the mandatory 8% contribution. Mr. Badmus stressed that enrollees must promptly notify their PFAs of any changes in personal details to avoid future payment delays.

In his closing remarks, the Permanent Secretary, State Post Service Board, Revd. Victor Adesola said the Oyo State government has started on a good note. He then allayed the fears of enrollees noting that government will continue to ensure the successful implementation of the scheme and then advised Pension Desk Officers to be proactive and open minded I the course of discharging their duties.

Reverend Victor Adesola also enjoined the participants to make use of the necessary skills acquired in the course of the capacity building workshop.

The authority of the Oyo State Local Government Staff Pension Board in conjunction with South West Zonal office of  National Pension Commission today organized training of trainers on the operationalization of  Contributory Pension Scheme.

Speaking at the programme held at the Local Government Staff Training School,  Secretariat, Ibadan,  today, the Chairman of the Board, Hon Akeem Ademola Ige in his speech said the Board is fully committed to working with the National Pension Commission ( PENCOM), the  Pension Fund Administrators, the Government and all relevant stakeholders to ensure the Contributory Pension Scheme is implemented effectively transparently and sustainably in the Local Government sector of Oyo State.

Hon Ige stated further that the Executive Governor of Oyo State,  His Excellency, Engr Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde’s Administration has demonstrated a strong commitment to the welfare and well being of workers and pensioners in the State.

While delivering her address, the Deputy Head, South West zonal office of National Pension Commission, Mrs Sarah Joseph  described the implementation of Contributory Pension Scheme as one of the beautiful things that happened in Oyo State.

Mrs Sarah Joseph disclosed that “Pension industry is one of the highly regulated industries in Nigeria where safety of fund is guaranteed. Both safety and growth of funds are important in Contributory Pension Scheme. Noting that Pension fund has one of the highest rated “Return on Investment” in Nigeria.

She gave full insight into the  Contributory Pension Scheme, clarified misconception about the scheme and assured that the scheme protects workers effectively.

In their separate goodwill messages,  the Executive Secretary of the State Primary Health Care ( PHCC) Board, Dr Muideen  Olatunji, the Executive Secretary State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Dr Olukemi  Adeosun represented by the Director of Personnel, Mrs Omolara Adegbenjo and Permanent Secretary, Ibadan Zone 1 Barrister Jubril Alaga commended the Executive Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Engr Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde for approving the commencement of Contributory Pension Scheme in the State and urged all relevant stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the scheme in order to secure better future for  all enrollees.

In his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Local Government Staff Pension Board TPL Olufemi Akinwale said “the key areas the training seeks to address is the practical operationalization of the scheme. This includes the preparation and processing of the necessary documentation, enrollment of eligible employees, determination and deductions of pension contributions from salaries, remittance of contributions and a clear understanding of the responsibilities of the various stakeholders throughout the process.

However, he emphasized the commitment of the Board to collaborate with every stakeholders to ensure that the implementation of the scheme is successfully achieved.

The Regional Head of FCMB Pension,  Alhaji Kamal Badmus on behalf of the Pension Fund Administrators,  highlighted required documents expected from the enrollees which include  photocopy of enrollees employment letter, National Identification Number (NIN) slip viz a viz arrangement and spelling of name should be the same, date of birth, a passport photograph with white background and everything must match.

The Oyo State Local Government Staff Pension Board on Monday flagged off payment of gratuity to another batch of one thousand retired Primary School Teachers and Local Government Staff.

Delivering his keynote address at the flag off ceremony held at the Local Government Staff Training School, Secretariat, Ibadan, the Chairman of the Board, Hon Akeem Ademola Ige disclosed that the gratuity payment to another batch of retired Primary School Teachers, Local Government Staff and Next of Kins of deceased pensioners will be held across all the geo- political zones of the state.

Hon Ige revealed that the Executive Governor of Oyo State His Excellency, Engr Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde has approved and released the sum of Three Billion Naira ( #3B) for the payment exercise and therefore congratulated all the beneficiaries of the payment exercise. He then urged citizens, residents and pensioners in Oyo state in particular to continue to support and and cooperate with the Governor Seyi Makinde led administration as he strives to bequeath an enduring and sustainable legacy across all sectors in the state .

” A government that cares for its workers and pensioners deserves our collective support and prayers” he said.

The press release issued and signed by the Director of Education and Social Services of the Board, Mrs Olabanke Adeyemo said Hon Ige then advised the beneficiaries to spend their retirement benefits wisely and be wary of fraudsters.

In his goodwill message, the Majority Leader of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon Sanjo Adewoyin congratulated the beneficiaries and charged all pensioners to reciprocate the kind gesture of the governor in the forthcoming 2027 general elections. He also said the governor considered Hon Akeem Ige as the Chairman of the Board two years ago because of his experience, commitment and dedication to the development of the pacesetter state.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Local Government Staff Pension Board, TPL Olufemi Akinwale said the pensioners friendly Governor, Engr Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde has been demonstrating unwavering commitment to all pensioners since he assumed office .

According to him ” in his characteristic manner of ensuring that adequate planning is put in place for sustainable payment of gratuity and other retirement benefits has recently approved Contributory Pension Scheme ( CPS). Unlike other states , the Oyo State government will contribute 12 percent while the enrollees will contribute 8 percent. All hands must therefore be on deck to ensure the successful implementation of the new pension scheme that will run alongside the Defined Benefits Scheme.”

The highlight of the progranme was the symbolic presentation of cheques to some of the beneficiaries.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr Adisa Gafar and Mrs Bejide appreciated Governor Seyi Makinde for always putting smiles on the faces of senior citizens.

The Okere of Saki, His Royal Majesty , Oba (Dr) Khalid Oyeniyi Olabisi  Oyedepo 111 has commended the Executive Governor of Oyo State , His Excellency,  Engr Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde for approving the commencement of Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) for newly employed  Oyo workers

 Oba Dr Khalid Oyeniyi Olabisi Oyedepo 111 gave the commendation while receiving the management of  the Oyo State Local Government Staff Pension Board led by  the Chairman, Hon Akeem Ademola Ige in the monarch’s palace this morning.

 The  paramount monarch in Oke Ogun zone, gave kudos to the  Governor for all the workers and pensioners friendly welfare policies and packages since his assumption of office and particularly lauded Engr Seyi Makinde for the recent approval of the scheme that will commence from 1st July 2026 starting with the newly employed workers of 1st January,  2025.

 The  monarch added that the implementation of the new scheme will make retirement peaceful and enjoyable and that there will be no delay in the payment of pensions and gratuity again as Pension Custodians will be the ones to be managing the Retirement Savings Account (RSA) on behalf of the Pension Fund Administrators whose  core mandate it is to maintain up to date   records on the enrollees  and employers contribution and seamless disbursement  of the retirement benefits as and when due.

 Oba Khalid Oyeniyi Olabisi also said he retired as a Federal worker before the introduction of Contributory Pension Scheme and sadly he  could not get his retirement benefits unlike those that retired after him that joined the scheme  were able to receive their retirement benefits immediately they retired.

 He  therefore appreciated the Chairman of the Board Hon Akeem Ademola Ige describing him as a round peg in a round hole who has been consistent in complementing the efforts of the Governor in putting smiles on the faces of senior citizens .

 Earlier in his speech at the palace, the Chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Staff Pension Board, Hon Akeem Ademola Ige said the purpose of the visit is to pay homage and  intimate the paramount ruler of Saki on the sensitization meeting on Contributory Pension Scheme with the newly employed workers with the primary of explaining the benefits of the scheme to the prospective enrollees.

 Hon Ige also said the defined benefits scheme is longer  sustainable and thus the Executive Governor of Oyo State Engr Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde in his magnanimity approved the implementation of Contributory Pension Scheme.

 He said  Seyi Makinde led  Government (employer) in its love for workers of  the pacesetter State   will contribute twelve percent  while employees will  contribute eight percent of their basic salary, transport and housing components of their total  monthly emoluments.

 Hon Ige then lauded the traditional rulers in Oke Ogun for complementing  the efforts of the State Government in ensuring security of lives and property.

The Chairman and his team later held sensitization  meeting with the newly employed in  Oke Ogun zone 2  comprising Saki West, Saki East, Atisbo, Irepo, Oorelope and  Olorunshogo LGs  held at Saki West  Local Government.

The team had earlier held meetings  with prospective enrollees in  Oyo, Ogbomoso,  Ibarapa, Oke Ogun zones 1 & 2 and that of Ibadan zone will take place  next week Tuesday at the Local Government Staff Training School, Secretariat Ibadan.

The Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Oyo State Chapter has applauded the Executive Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Engr Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde and Local Government Staff Pension Board authority for adopting an orderly and senior citizens friendly approach during the just concluded. “I Am Alive Physical Verification Exercise” for retired Primary School Teachers and Local Government Staff across the thirty three Local Governments in the Pacesetter state.

The commendation was given by the state Chairmen of both retired primary school teachers and local government staff Comrade Dosu Akinpelu and Alhaji Muniru Adesope respectively.

The Executives of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners also appreciated Governor Seyi Makinde for providing security personnel in all the screening centers across the state.

In pursuance of its statutory mandate in ascertaining the actual number of Pensioners on payroll that are still alive , the Oyo State Local Government Staff Pension Board conducted ” I Am Alive Physical Verification Exercise” of all retired Local Government staff, primary school teachers and non teaching staff of public primary schools across the thirty three Local Governments in the state for the year 2026.

While monitoring the “I Am Alive Physical Verification” exercise across the thirty three Local Governments, the Chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Staff Pension Board, Hon Akeem Ademola Ige reiterated Engr Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde led administration’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of all pensioners in the Pacesetter state.

Hon Akeem Ige said retirees that have health issues in different hospitals were screened through video calls and further explained that pensioners that are outside the country will also be screened through video calls at a date to be communicated to them.

Retired primary school teachers and local government retirees trooped out in large numbers in all the thirty three Local Governments and expressed gratitude to Governor Seyi Makinde and Oyo State Local Government Staff Pension Board for conducting a stress free “I Am Alive Screening” exercise and used the occasion to pray for the safe return of the abducted teachers and pupils of Oriire Local Government.

The “I Am Alive Physical Verification Exercise” commenced on Monday, 1st June, 2026 and ended on Thursday, 11th June at designated centres across the state.

The Chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Staff Pension Board,  Hon Akeem Ademola Ige has charged retirees to continue to support Gov Seyi Makinde led Government in order to enjoy more welfare packages.

Hon Akeem Ademola Ige gave the charge while delivering keynote address during the payrolling exercise of the newly retired Primary School Teachers and Local Government Staff held today  at the Local Government Staff Training School Secretariat,  Ibadan .

While commending the State Governor for consistently putting smiles on the faces of senior citizens since assumption of office, Hon Ige acknowledged that pensioners in Oyo State never had it so good until Gov Seyi Makinde assumes office in 2019. He also noted that for continuity of dividends of democracy being enjoyed by pensiones  he appealed to them to cast their votes for anointed  candidates of the Governor in the forthcoming  2027 general elections.

In their separate goodwill messages, the State Chairman and Secretary, NUP, retired primary school teachers wing, Comrade Dosu Akinpelu and Comrade Tunji Ogunwale respectively commended the Governor and briefly highlighted some of the achievements of the present Government which include regular payment of pension and gratuity, Fifty Thousand Naira Christmas bonus, Ten Thousand Naira transportation support fund to cushion the effect of the economic hardship, inclusion of all pensioners in the health insurance scheme (OYSHIA) and many more.

The Permanent Secretary, Local Government Staff Pension Board , Mr  Olufemi Akinwale also lauded the Governor for considering both workers and pensioners in the scheme of things under the present administration.

He then advised the new retirees that are being payrolled  to prioritize their health, eat nutritious meals and interact with family and friends.

The highlight of the event was the symbolic presentation of pension certificates to some of the new retirees.

The Oyo State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Engr Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde has paid over Thirty Seven Billion Naira as gratuity and death benefits to retired primary school teachers and local government staff  since the inception of his administration.

This was disclosed by the Chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Staff Pension Board,  Hon Akeem Ademola Ige while delivering his keynote address at the  flag-off ceremony of the  payment of gratuity to another batch of retired primary school teachers and local government staff and death benefits to next of kins of deceased pensioners.

Hon Akeem Ige explained further that the disbursement exercise of Three Billion Naira to another set  of retirees will be held across the geo- political zones of the State in order to reduce the stress hitherto by  retirees.

In their separate goodwill messages, the  Executive Assistant to the Governor on Finance , Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Gafar Bello and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Establishment and Training, Alhaji Siju Lawal commended  Governor Seyi Makinde for his unwavering commitment to workers and pensioners welfare since assumption of office in May 2019 till date.

Also speaking at the event, the NUP National Treasurer  Deacon Jare Jokanola and the  NUP State Secretary,   Oyo State Council  , Comrade  Segun Abatan acknowledged that Governor Seyi Makinde is most  pensioners friendly Governor who has been consistent in doling out various welfare packages,  noting that Seyi Makinde has distinguished himself from other Governors .

The duo said  both National and State NUP will continue to praise Governor Seyi Makinde  because  there are some States that are owing pensions and gratuities . “Seyi Makinde is now paying Six Billion Naira monthly as gratuity to both retired State workers, primary school teachers and Local Government Staff” they said.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Local Government Staff Pension Board,  Mr Olufemi Akinwale appreciated the Governor for his compassionate approach to governance and therefore advised the beneficiaries to utilize their gratuity  wisely and be cautious of unscrupulous individuals who may seek to take advantage of them.

The highlight of the event was the symbolic presentation of cheques to beneficiries.

The Oyo State Local Government Staff Pension Board has payrolled another set of newly retired Primary School Teachers and Local Government Staff.

Speaking today at the event held at the Local Government Staff Training School, Secretariat, Ibadan, the Chairman of the Board,  Hon Akeem Ademola Ige commended the Executive Governor of Oyo State,  His Excellency,  Engr. Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde for his unprecedented unwavering commitment to workers and pensioners welfare since assumption of office.

The Chairman also applauded the Governor for being consistent in the regular payment of pensions and gratuity, noting that His Excellency recently approved the upward increase in the Board’s monthly allocation from One Billion Naira to Three Billion Naira.

Hon Akeem Ige explained that the new retirees drawn across the thirty three Local Governments were considered for inclusion in the monthly voucher for collection of pension after the completion of the processing and approval of their retirement benefits.

In his opening remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Local Government Staff Pension Board, Mr. Olufemi Akinwale said the authority of the Board is firmly committed to ensuring seamless and stress free retirement process for all retirees and commended the state governor for prompt release of funds for regular payment of pension and gratuity.

The programme featured health talk by the Permanent Secretary, Ibadan Health Office 1 , Dr. Tunde Aremu  who advised the new retirees to adopt a healthy lifestyle by taking their physical, mental and social health seriously. That they should eat wisely, engage in regular physical activities, learn to laugh, do annual health check up and  take medications as prescribed by medical practitioners.

Also, while speaking on Post active service life, the former Secretary of the Board and retired Head of Local Government Administration in the state Local Government Service, Dr. Ayodele Busari emphasized the need for retirees to nurture their families and friends, manage their finances by spending wisely , live within their means, stay engaged  not live a solitary life,  let go of stressors capable of affecting their physical, emotional and psychological well-being adversely.

Pension Certificates and other approved retirement documents were later presented to the new retirees.

Responding on behalf of all the newly payrolled retirees, Mr. Ebo Olalekan and Mrs. Akintunde took turns to express gratitude to Governor Seyi Makinde for prioritizing pensioners’ welfare and also thanked the authority of the Oyo State Local Government Staff Pension Board for complementing the efforts of the Governor.

Free medical check up such as blood pressure, blood sugar level and HIV tests were also provided for the retirees.

Hon Akeem Ige gave the charge while addressing the entire members of staff of the Board at the general meeting held today at the conference room, Local Government Service Commission, Secretariat, Ibadan.

The Chairman welcomed the new Permanent Secretary and then solicited for the support , cooperation, more commitment and dedication of the management and staff in order to sustain the legacy and achievements recorded by the present administration in the state and the Board in particular.

He emphasized the need for staff to be more disciplined , be proactive and come up with initiatives that will bring more progress to the Board.

In his remarks, the Chairman, Local Government Service Commission, Bashorun Akinwale Solomon Akinwole congratulated and welcomed Mr Olufemi Akinwale and prayed for his successful tenure in office.

In his address, the newly posted Permanent Secretary, Local Government Staff Pension Board, TPL Olufemi Akinwale expressed his profound gratitude to the Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Engr Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde for appointing him last year and presently posted to the Board. He also thanked Hon Ige and then enjoined staff to treat pensioners with utmost humility, respect and patience. Noting that they are all image makers of the Board in their respective offices.

Speaking on behalf of the entire staff, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees ( NULGE) , Comrade Adedokun Ademola appreciated the Chairman of the Board Hon Akeem Ademola Ige, Permanent Secretary and Heads of Departments for the various welfare packages being enjoyed by the staff and pledged their continued loyalty, support and cooperation to the present administration in the state and management of the Board.

The Chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Staff Pension Board, Hon Akeem Ademola Ige has commended the Executive Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Engr. Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde for his consistency in putting smiles on the faces of senior citizens through various welfare packages since assumption of office in May 2019 till date.

Hon Akeem Ige gave the commendation during the disbursement of two billion naira gratuity and death benefits to over five hundred   retired primary school teachers and local government staff   held across the geo-political zones of the State.

The Chairman said the Governor has paid over Twenty Nine Billion (#29B)  as gratuity and death benefits so far out of the inherited backlog from previous administrations and part of  this  present administration.

Also, Hon Ige further stated that the least paid pensioner now collects Twenty Five Thousand naira (#25,000) as monthly pension and has increased Christmas bonus  from Twenty Five Thousand Naira (#25,000) to Fifty Thousand Naira ( #50,000) and many more welfare packages.

The Chairman used the occasion to congratulate the  Government and the good people of Oyo State for the memorable 50th anniversary celebration.

In their separate goodwill messages, the Chairman of  Oyo  at 50 planning committee,  Hon Saheed Akinade Fijabi,  State Secretary, Nigeria Union of Pensioners Oyo State Chapter,  Comrade Segun Abatan, Chairman of  Iseyin Local Government,  Hon Rasaq Fadiran, Permanent Secretary Ibadan Zone 1 Pastor Adeola Oduola and other eminent personalities that graced the occasion applauded Engr. Seyi Makinde for being workers and pensioners friendly Governor.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the Acting Head of Local Government Administration, Mr Musibau Ladele enjoined the beneficiaries to spend their gratuity wisely and prudently.

While responding on behalf of the beneficiries Mrs Busari Temilola gave kudos to Governor Seyi Makinde for the kind gesture and prayed that God will take him to greater heights.

Permanent Secretaries, NUP Executives and top government officials were present at the payment exercise.
